New MG Hector Debuts with Petrol Engine; Diesel Powertrain to Follow in 2026
- Prices start at Rs 11.99 lakh
- Rivals include the Creta, Seltos, Alcazar, and the upcoming XUV 7XO
MG Motor India has introduced the Hector facelift, however buyers opting for a diesel powertrain will need to wait longer. At launch, the updated MG Hector is available exclusively with a petrol engine, while the company has confirmed that the diesel variant will be introduced in 2026.
Under the hood, the petrol-only Hector continues with the familiar 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, producing 143bhp and 250Nm of torque. The motor is offered with both manual and CVT automatic transmission options. While MG has not officially cited the reason for delaying the diesel version, rising diesel vehicle costs due to stricter emission norms, along with growing demand for petrol and automatic variants in urban markets, are likely factors behind the decision. That said, diesel powertrains remain a key consideration for large SUV buyers in India, particularly for high-mileage users.
Prices for the petrol-powered MG Hector start at Rs. 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV is available in both five- and seven-seat configurations, placing it in competition with rivals such as the Hyundai Creta, Hyundai Alcazar, Kia Seltos, Kia Carens Clavis, and the upcoming Mahindra XUV 7XO.
