The All-New Mercedes GLC with EQ Technology Is Here

The electric version of the GLC has officially debuted in Europe, and Mercedes-Benz has made a notable branding shift. Instead of carrying the EQC name from the now-retired Mercedes-EQ sub-brand, the new model joins the core GLC lineup under the “GLC with EQ Technology” badge.

On the outside, the SUV features a sleek, sculpted profile, flush door handles, and a digital LED grille with animated lighting inspired by the brand’s iconic three-pointed star. Inside, the focus is firmly on digital luxury. Buyers can opt for the massive 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen that stretches across the dashboard and runs on the new AI-powered MB.OS system, enabling real-time navigation optimisation and over-the-air updates. Premium sustainable materials, vegan upholstery options, and the Sky Control panoramic roof with 162 illuminated stars further elevate the cabin experience.

Built on the new MB.EA electric platform, the GLC EQ uses an advanced 800-volt architecture designed for faster charging, better efficiency, and improved thermal management compared with traditional 400-volt systems. It houses a 94.5-kWh battery paired with a dual-motor AWD setup and a two-speed transmission for the rear motor. The first variant, the GLC 400 4MATIC with EQ Technology, produces 360 kW (490 hp) and sprints from 0–100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds despite weighing 2,535 kg. Mercedes claims a range of over 700 km, though real-world estimates may sit closer to 550 km. Ultra-fast charging above 300 kW can add roughly 300 km of range in 10 minutes, and bidirectional charging allows the car to power a home or feed energy back to the grid.

Practicality remains a strong point. A longer wheelbase improves legroom, while a 570-litre boot and 128-litre front trunk provide generous storage. Ride comfort is enhanced by the updated Airmatic air suspension with Car-to-X communication and rear-wheel steering.

By aligning its EVs with familiar model names, Mercedes aims to make the shift to electric more approachable for customers. The electric GLC is expected to reach India in the second half of 2026, with more variants to follow, including single-motor, long-range, and AMG performance versions. Pricing will likely exceed the former EQC’s ₹99.51 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it against rivals such as models from Porsche, BMW, and Audi in the premium electric SUV space.
