Triumph Tracker 400 Launched in the UK: Unlikely to be Launched in India
- Based on the Speed 400
- Gets the same engine tune as the Thruxton 400
- India could get a 350cc derivative of the Tracker 400
Triumph Motorcycles has launched the new Tracker 400 in the UK, expanding its 400cc portfolio with a retro-styled roadster that draws inspiration from classic flat-track motorcycles. The motorcycle is priced in the UK at GBP 5,745 (Rs. 6.94 lakh). Based on the Speed 400, the Tracker 400, however, gets the same engine tune as the Thruxton 400, making it a slightly sportier offering in the line-up.
In terms of design, the Triumph Tracker 400 features a minimalist and purpose-built look. It comes with a flat and elongated seat, slim fuel tank with knee recesses, and a stubby tail section that gives it a proper flat-tracker stance. The round LED headlamp, tracker-style side panels, seat cowl, and minimal bodywork further enhance its retro appeal.
Powering the Triumph Tracker 400 is the same 398.15cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine seen on the Speed 400, but in the Thruxton 400’s state of tune. This motor produces around 41.5bhp at 9,000rpm and 37.5Nm of peak torque at 7,500rpm. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox along with a slip-and-assist clutch. The engine is known for its strong mid-range performance and refined nature.
Cycle parts on the Tracker 400 are largely shared with the Speed 400. It is underpinned by a hybrid perimeter steel frame and is suspended by upside-down front forks and a gas-charged rear monoshock. Braking duties are handled by a disc at both ends, aided by dual-channel ABS. The motorcycle rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in road-biased knobby-style tyres.
